We started out buying an old house with some land in a hurry due to the agents marketing strategy & not having time to obtain builders estimates (just our architects view, prior to design). Once we’d got plans and permission together, the first builder we contacted provided a price that was prohibitive for our dreams. We then found Field & Field who were understanding of what we desired and very patient with us working through various options, if we do this but don’t do that and round a few times until we got to a position everyone was happy with and we were going to be able to move forward with our forever home. The first stage was a significant amount of demolition, what struck me was that all trades were there and working as a happy team. No one above a bit of demolition before returning at later stages to do their profession and when they did they were all very friendly and willing to explain things. We were effectively project managing, which was a little daunting, though Barry & Nick walked us through the various build stages and decisions that needed to be made along the way (more than I was expecting). They interfaced really well with others such as electricity board who had to disconnect and re-connect, architect, timber roof (built offsite) never stepping back leaving us on our own. We are now living in our forever home and the house is settling so just what we’re told (by many sources) the usual settling cracks and doors aligning…. which Field & Field are coming back to fix up. As we sit here relaxing in our bright open dining area we’re not left with a feeling of how expensive it was, at no point did Barry come back to us saying the price has increased due to the price of materials. There were of course a few changes along the way, but they were all priced fairly.
